After years of discussion and lobbying, SBST has finally diverted bus service 85 to Sengkang West. From Sunday, 31 July 2011, Service 85 will call at three pairs of new bus stops along Sengkang West Way. However, from Punggol Interchange, it will call at these new bus stops only after 9am from Mondays to Fridays (excluding Public Holidays) and all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
The details are as follows:
From Punggol Interchange to Yishun Interchange, it will stop at:
- Bus stop code 67559 (Before Fernvale Link)
- Bus stop code 67596 (In front of Block 432A)
- Bus stop code 67579 (Before Jalan Kayu)
From Yishun Interchange to Punggol Interchange, it will stop at:
- Bus stop code 67571 (After Lorong Tanggam)
- Bus stop code 67561 (Opposite Block 432A)
- Bus stop code 67551 (After Fernvale Link)
These new stops will be welcomed news as they will better serve residents living in the Sengkang West Way area. Residents from Fernvale can also enjoy this additional convenience when travelling to Anchorvale CC and Compasspoint.

Hi Dr Lam,
I sent an email to you recently using the email address:
vpmlam@gmail.com
which I got from the parliament website.
One of the things which I highlighted was that the letterboxes at Block 441C had been tampered with and that they were very dirty from muddy water and had not been cleaned for weeks. Pls look into it. Thanks.

Mr Cheong,
Thanks for the comments. I just did a block visit at Block 441C yesterday evening and unfortunately, I must have missed you.
I am aware of the tampering of the letterboxes there and the Town Council has been informed about it. They have also asked the contractors clean and rectify the problems. If you still encounter any problem with your letter box,you can contact the TC office at 64561633.
Sir, as of this morning 9.30 am on 8 Aug 2011, the letterbox still has not been cleaned. What’s the Town Council’s plans? Are they going to replace the letterbox cover or door? Pls share the info else we keep thinking TC is incapable of performing a simple task as cleaning the letterboxes.
In my previous flat at Choa Chu Kang, one email from the MP to the TC and and a rep came to my flat and had the spoilt hopper replaced by the next day. That is the kind of efficiency we need.
You may take care of big matters like the LRT and buses but you must handle the small matters just as well, if not more so since they are supposed to be small matters.
Thanks.
Dear Dr Lam,
I’m not sure what the Town Council will do with the letterbox problem but may I offer a possible solution. Since the letterboxes were designed to prevent junkmail, let’s just weld all the slots permanently shut or change the whole cover without the slots, depending which is cheaper.
Sir, I’m not aware of your schedule for house visits. If you can put that info on your website, we can then wait for you instead of you wasting time going around. We can send our address and phone number to your email address. We must make full use of technology.
Thanks.

Hi Dr Lam , I am a future resident of blk 435C Residences in fernvale road area. I will start staying there on next 1st Q2012.. I feel there is lack of safety in the night. There are so many foreigner workers in that areas for few years times since government launched New BTOs such as Fernvale Crest ; Fernvale Vista II ; Fernvale Vista I ; Fernvale Foliage ; Fernvale Flora ; Fernvale Residences ; Fernvale Palm ; Fernvale Ridge ; Fernvale Garden ; Fernvale Riverbow ; Fernvale Court ; Fernvale Grove; coral spring. Is it possible have a police neighborhood office in that area?
Thanks

MeiLin,
The SPF does not set up neighbourhood police post anymore. I will inform them of your concerns and request the police to step up their patrolling of these areas.
Hi Dr Lam, I’m a future resident of Fernvale Residence as well. I’m excited about this diversion of bus service 85 as it brings a whole new level of accessibility to Fernvale area. Thank you and I greatly appreciate your effort!
Thank you so much Dr. Lam for your effort …
Dear Dr Lam,
As Fernvale is increasing in its population but has not meet the critical mass for the SBS to provide more bus services. At this transition period, a small number small of residents would welcome some small bus services, where the operation cost is subsidised, to improve this lacking. Instead of just relying on SBS 163. Moreover, the SBS 85 does not route into the Fernvale Lane and Sengkang West Ave.
Some suggested bus routes could be as follow:
1. Fernvale to Ang Mo Kio Hub
2. Fernvale to Tampines
3. Fernvale via CTE to Orchard Road
4. Fernvale via SLE,KJE,PIE, to Jurong or Tuas
5. Fernvale to Toa Payoh or Bishan
These small bus services would stop when the SBS is ready to take over.
This would cater the present need of small number of residents before a significant number passengers is realised. It would bring the happiness or reduce the unhappiness amongst this group of residents who have been talking about it in the past years.
The bus services is one of the major concerned in Fernvale. We hope you would keep improve it.
Thank you.
Warmest Regards,
Dickson Ang
May I add Fernvale to Pasir Panjang, thank you.
Mr Lam, the diversion of 85 is good. But given the increase of residents, the service level of bus 85 service have not increased. The frequency and the capacity of this service did not keep up with the growth in the resident and the route diversion. Please look into this. Thank.
