Since my post in April on the extra bus added to the fleet of 163, there has been more changes to augment the capacity of the service.
I was informed by LTA and SBST that since early June, they have started running double-decker bus for service 163. This will be very useful in boosting the capacity, especially during peak morning hours.
Using double-decker buses to increase the capacity has been proposed to SBST couple of years back. However, because of the height of the bus, the proposal was not approved by NParks as there were height limitations imposed along the route that Service 163 plies. Fortunately, this restriction has been removed after NParks gave the green light to proceed.
We will continue to monitor the situation and I welcome feedback from residents on the effect of the change.

Hi Mr Lam,
How about bus service 372? Will there be any improvements in the service?
Hi Mr Lam,
The service for 372 is equally bad as 163. Hope you can do something about it.
Hi Dr Lam,
I share the same sentiments with Jo. 372 is the only feeder service bus in Sengkang. We often notice that the queue at the interchange is long and stretched to the shopping mall during peak hours. Appreciate if you could help to look into bus 372. Thanks.
Hi Dr Lam,
Adding to the above with regards to bus service 372, could you get SBS to look into utilising less noisy buses and improving the bus captain’s driving technique? These buses can quite noisy whenever the bus drivers rev the engines and apply the brakes. As these buses run till pretty late after midnight every day, they can be quite a distraction to residents whose units are facing the road along the route and who are trying to sleep after a hard day at work, also given that HDB flats are not exactly the best when it comes to sound insulation.
Hope you will be able to look into this. Thank you.
Hello Mr Lam
Sir, the quality of buses being used
for service 372 must be improved .Noisy old buses is just one of the problems we residents have to face when on board this service
Hi Mr Lam,
Could you also take a look at sengkang west LRT service?? The current train frequency is not sufficient to meet the current demand. Often, I see residents from Renjung not able to get up the LRT.. Not just once but twice. This is affecting school goers & kids too, leaving lots of residents frustrated.
In addition, from observation, it seems that train frequency for sengkang east is 4x higher than sengkang west. Believe that low demand in sengkang west was the reason for the low frequency but now things have changed with the new & intense development in fernvale area. (you may want to try taking the LRT at 8am ; 7-8pm to get a feel)
As most of the residents depend on lrt as a mean of transport to get to compasspoint, schools & MRT, improving the train frequency will greatly enhance the happiness of sk west residents. Thanks.

Yes, I am aware of this and have also informed SBST and LTA about it. I hope to resolve this soonest possible.
Hi Mr Lam,
Thanks for looking into this issue. Please keep us posted. SK residents are eager to know the solutions to be implemented to ease the current LRT traffic issue.
Thanks for working on this.
Hi Dr. Lam,
I apologise if this is not the appropriate channel to highlight one of my concerns. I stay in Sengkang West and take bus no. 103 to work everyday. Recently due to the ongoing activities in the Seletar Aerospace Hub, the bus is overcrowded. I have tried to go to work earlier (to avoid crowd) but same outcome. It is a capacity issue where demand exceeds supply. I wish you could help to highlight this.
Thank you.

I will feedback to LTA and the Public Transport Operator. thanks.
Good afternoon, Mr Lam, I moved in to my new place at Blk 443B Fernvale Road last Sep. The environment is nice and I am happy with it. Just want to share with you my experience this morning about the bus transport service. I left my house around 7.45am and as usual I could get the svc 163 to change to svc 27/27A at Blk 203B so that I can reach my work place at Tampines around 8.30am. Unluckily, this morning, the expressway (Braddell; TPE) encounter heavy traffic jam, when I reached my workplace was 9.20am. I observed that the svc 163 schedule in the morning on normal days are not in the average of 10mins (buses arrived ard 7.30am, 7.45am, 7.50am, 8am). I believed was due to the route that 163 passed (Braddell). I hope the bus svc provider can look into the matter how to improve the svc 163M as the interval is too long (30mins). For svc 27/27A, I am really appreciate that the schedule is fast, but for the increasing of population, and most of the residents are working in Tampines, will there be a direct bus svc from SK West in future cos the svc 27/27A are always very full. Thank you ; have a nice day.

Irene, Welcome to Sengkang West.I am glad you enjoy your new flat. I agree there is alot to improve in terms of the bus network in Sengkang West. DPM Tharman has announced the provision of another 800 buses over the next 5-10 years and MOT / LTA will be making more announcements in the coming COS debate in parliament. I believe this will help to improve the situation in SW.
